Plus size women have more shopping options than ever before! This is a striking take on a pencil skirt, and I love the bold red color with the black trim. I decided to play off the strong sleek lines of the skirt and added a black sleeveless mock turtleneck and some black shoes with ankle straps (to echo the color-blocked hem). All that's left is to grab a sturdy, practical tote and you're out the door. This is the type of skirt that gives me confidence when I'm heading to work -- I would turn to this outfit when I have an important meeting or a presentation, and I know I'd rock it!

Just a note on sizing -- I'm wearing a size 2x skirt here, but in most items on Love Lianca, I'm falling in the 3x range, so the items are running a little snug. Wherever you carry more weight, size up. Since I'm slimmer on the bottom, and this skirt is made out of a stretchy material, I felt confident going with a 2x.

I'm done adulting. All I want to do is run away and be a mermaid! And OMG...my dreams came true! A new mermaid class has come to Chicago!! Aquamermaid Chicago offers introductory classes for adults (over 14) and kids (7-13). The intro class fits would-be mermaids with a fin, lets you choose your color of tail (pink or blue), and teaches you the basics of swimming without legs! It was one of the most fun Sunday afternoons I've had in a while. How often do you get to live out a fantasy?!

YESSSSS, QUEEN! Aquamermaid offers classes on Sunday afternoons, for one hour each. And yes, the tail and fin rental are included in the price of the class! 

Aquamermaid Chicago holds their classes at the Whitney Young High School pool near downtown Chicago. I got confused trying to find the right building, but finally made it to the pool!

First, you find your way to the locker room and get into your swimsuit. NOTE: Bring a towel!!! We forgot to bring a towel and had to improvise after the class was over! 

Next, you'll get fitted for a monofin! This means that they have to find a fin that will properly stay on your feet throughout the class...because what's a mermaid without a fin? A sad mermad, that's what.

Then you get to choose your tail -- pink or blue. They come in sizes S-L...but plus size ladies don't fear...the material is very stretchy, so I had no problem getting into the L, even though I'm a size 18/20.

Also, you WILL need help getting into your tail. That's what the lovely instructors and helpers are there for! This is not a graceful process...it involves laying down, shimmying, pulling, flopping, standing and at one point, doing a crab walk. But it's worth it. Once it's on, you transform into a beautiful mermaid princess!

Of course, I'm a sucker for a photo op, and I couldn't just arrive without a mermaid inspired outfit...so yes, I put extensions in my hair and had a full face of makeup so that I could fulfill my beautiful mermaid dreams. lol.

During the class, we learned how to swim like a mermaid, which is basically a lovely undulating, repeating motion of abs, hips, tail, fin. You learn to do it on your stomach and on your back...and then on your side, which is a lot harder! After everyone is fairly comfortable with their techniques, we learn a few tricks like the fin stand and mermaid kisses and then the class culminates in a mermaid race! I did not win, but I didn't care...it was magical! And of course...Aquamermaid knows that that mermaids HAVE to have time for pictures, so they graciously allow you to do all sorts of poses for the camera during the end of the class! Here are some fun after-class shots (sans-extensions, of course) and a fab video that they shot during my class!

And OMG...I got to meet two other fabulous bloggers who were at the class too! Dasha from Windy City Wardrobe and Jalpa from Samosa Pop were so fun and lovely to hang with at Mermaid School!

What drew me to this dress immediately was the cheerful palm print in a riot of orange and pink and white colors. And then..the piping detail was so unique and really helped to pop the print. It's a perfect workwear dress, since it has a high neckline and a knee-length hem. And the great flare silhouette allows the dress to skim your curves. And OMG...the fabric is legit! It's the perfect weight -- thick, but still very breathable. All I added was a pair of orange pumps and a simple clutch and I was all set! That's seriously the power of a great dress!

Last week, I introduced you to one of my new plus size fashion destinations: Love Lianca. When it comes to dressing for the office, I love a good sheath dress! And this one comes in such a rich luscious blue that I feel in love immediately!  have to give a shout out to the straps on this dress which are wide enough to hide bra straps! I'm wearing a 3X and this dress is pretty snug, so definitely size up when you order!

I love the midi length of this sheath dress, which balances out the deep v neck in the front and back which can make this just a tad revealing for the office. I threw on a pink cropped blazer to add some coverage and played up the rose-gold accessories. I love the pink and blue combo!

Eloquii is absolutely KILLIN' IT in the plus size market! Every month it seems like they are coming out with a dress or a jumpsuit that I absolutely must have! I am so so so so happy that we have such a high-quality, on-trend option that consistently puts out amazing, innovative and stylish clothes for plus size women. What I love about this cute plus size sundress is the strategic placement of the striped fabric. I love that the middle part of the dress has the stripes placed diagonally like a chevron and then the ruffled flounce at the hem has them vertical. It keeps your eye moving and creates visual interest! The ruffle over the bust is also great, and moves with the wind! 

A note on sizing: This runs a bit big, actually! I usually order a size 20 in Eloquii, because I'm used to them running small for me, but this dress has a lot of stretch and a lot of room! Order one size down, and you'll be good!

Simple sundresses like this one are great, because all you need is a necklace, heels and clutch and you're out the door! Let the fabric do the talking, and you stay cool and look great!

I am thrilled that more and more brands and boutiques are actually size-inclusive -- offering the same options in straight and plus sizes. More and more independent retailers are figuring out this special recipe and I am proud to support them! And now we can add Skye's the Limit to that growing list of brands! It's an American-based brand that offers fresh, affordable fashion options for plus sizes along side straight sizes! I had the opportunity to try a transitional summer to fall look from their collection, and it is all about fringe!

It's a plus size fringe party up in here! This Vine Print Plus Size Kimono topper has a fun blue, beige an black print with black lace insets at the shoulder, and let's not forget to mention that the hem finishes with a layer of fringe! This kimono will literally go with anything in your closet, but it was fun to wear it over this awesome Plus Size Fringe Tank Top. It's hard to see the details, but the tank top is a lightweight, sheer fabric that has layers and layers of fringe down the front. It's playful and flirty and it's another piece that will go with countless other pieces in your closet! 

The capri leggings are also from Skye's the Limit, and they have the perfect hug-to-stretch ratio! And you can't go wrong with versatile black!

A note on sizing: Everything was very true to size! The Kimono has a relaxed fit and I'm wearing a 2X, but you can go down a size, if you want less flair. The fringe tank top is a 2X and it skimmed perfectly over my midsection and hips. The leggings are actually a 1X, and had a lot of stretch to them, although I think the 2X would have fit perfectly!

 With so much movement and fringe going on in this outfit, I went with simple accessories -- just some blue bangles I picked up at a market in San Antonio, a simple gold necklace and some tan leather wedges.

I've heard about the Chicago in White Pop-Up Picnic Dinner for several years, and I'm thrilled to pieces that I'll be attending the event this Saturday, August 6! Where will it be? NO IDEA! That's part of the fun and mystery around this event! The location is kept a secret until the day of the event and participants are notified in the morning. Then everyone dons their gorgeous white duds, packs an elegant picnic dinner and converges on that location where they will dine alfresco in a joyous celebration of Chicago.

The event was inspired by the City Beautiful Movement in the 1890s, and is now in its 6th year.

So, what do you need to know? Tickets are $35 (GET THEM HERE), and they include a table and chairs, and a tablecloth. But everything else is up to you! There will be Chloe wine there for you to purchase, but whatever you eat is up to you. Don't forget silverware and plates (everything must be white) too! Oh, and be sure to pack a white garbage bag, since we do need to clean up after ourselves and leave the location in pristine order!

So...now the important question...What am I going to wear?! I found 4 white dresses that would look right at home at this event...whimsical and romantic and white!

We're having a heat wave...a tropical heatwave...the temperature is rising, it isn't surprising...she certainly can Can-Can!!! That classic Marilyn Monroe song is all I can think of when I put this amazing fuchsia-colored Envelope Strapless Dress from Love Lianca*. I want to dance around flirtatiously ans sing...but it really is too too hot! lol

The color of this dress is so gorgeous and bright...you will absolutely heat up any room you walk into. To fully embrace the island vibe, I added a bright yellow flower in my hair and some colorful accessories. And that's it...I'm ready for a girls night out!

 A note on sizing: I'm wearing a 3X, and this dress is still pretty snug. I'd say that it would fit a size 16/18 perfectly, and size 18/20 if you like it tight!

Atlanta, I'm coming for you!!!!! I'm so so so excited to attend the TCF Style Expo this weekend in Atlanta. One of my favorite plus size blogger boos, Marie Denee, the creator of The Curvy Fashionista, is hosting a 2 day event full of fashion, shopping and fun! Come see me there on August 12-13 -- that's THIS Friday and Saturday!

Friday is packed with tons of panels focused on the plus size industry and the business of blogging, plus VIP mixers and blogger events. And then Saturday is when you get to give your credit card a workout! Tons of my favorite retailers will be on site with a selection of items that you can try and buy right there!

This heat wave here in Chicago doesn't seem to be slowing down! And when it's this hot, I want to be wearing next to nothing. I want something light and airy that doesn't cling to my sweat-soaked body. And thankfully, City Chic has tons of adorable plus size dresses that keep me cool and looking cute no matter how hot it gets! Here's a cheery little number...the Sunshine Striped Tunic in a color called Daffodil.

This airy dress is not only a divine soft yellow color, but it's got great navy and white pinstripes darting through it. It has a soft v-neckline and a ruffle over the bodice that moves in the wind. An elastic waistband and tie belt are simple details that help define the silhouette. It hits me a little above the knee. Overall, it fit perfectly and didn't cling in any awkward places...and that to me, is the test of a perfect summer dress!

Cute right? City Chic is totally slaying it and has so many options for plus size gals. It's rare that a week goes by that I haven't worn something from them! So check them out.

Quirky prints? Fun silhouettes? Bold patterns? These are the hallmarks of indie designer Rachel Antonoff and she recently collaborated with Gwynnie Bee* on an exclusive plus size collection that I am IN LOVE WITH. I'm sure you've all heard the news, but I absolutely HAD to get these pieces in my Gwynnie Bee closet once I saw them. The Rachel Antonoff and Gwynnie Bee plus size collection had me at the words "Frog Print Dress."

Yes, I said FROG PRINT! And it's not just any frog print...if you look closer, it's a dissected frog print!  

Talk about a quirky print! I've worn it several times and can't resist when someone tells me they love my dress...I would always say..."Thank you, can you tell it's a frog print?!" And then I would end up having long conversations with complete strangers about how twisted and cool the dress was...which led to a discussion about the designer and to Gwynnie Bee -- which I always describe as Netflix for clothes. If you haven't tried a Gwynnie Bee subscription, you SHOULD! I've been with them since nearly the beginning, and I never get tired of having a virtual closet that I can use to add spice and interest to my existing wardrobe.

This Rachel Antonoff Sam Dress in Frog Print is a simple shift dress, but what makes it unique (besides the eccentric print!) is the seaming detail at the hem and diagonally across the bust. It lays perfectly and gives shape, but doesn't cling -- which is awesome. Another nice feature is the material -- it's somewhere between a scuba and a heavier knit fabric with a nice stretch and just enough structure to conceal some bumps and rolls. It hits above the knee, which is nice for those of us who like shorter hemlines.

Summer is hitting its stride here in Chicago, and we've had weeks and weeks of super hot temps, which has me trying to wear the lightest and least restrictive clothing I can get my hands on. And that led me to another City Chic dress (see my last post about this cheery yellow sundress here)...this time, I went with a silky smokey blue maxi dress with a racerback knot and slits on the side.

I don't usually gravitate towards maxi dresses, since I prefer dresses that show my legs and have more structure. But the color is what convinced me to try this City Chic maxi dress...it's a gorgeous smokey blue and the material is a light, flowy and silky. And I loved it the moment I put it on! The scoop neck is universally flattering, and the racerback knot detail in the back is a nice addition. I also like the tassel tie belt at the waist and the slits -- which allow for maximum air flow!

It's a great dress and it kept me cool -- despite the heat!

Chambray is like the lighter, cooler cousin of denim, and it's the only choice for me when the temperatures sore in the summer. And OMG I found the most adorable Chambray Ruffled Dress at Perfectly Priscilla Boutique, an online boutique that has a great assortment of plus size dresses and tops!

This dress is called Paint the Day Away Dress from Perfectly Priscilla Boutique, and it's currently on clearance for only $20. I'm not kidding...you should snag one before they're gone! I got size 20/22, since I thought the 16/18 would be too snug. I love the lightness of the fabric, the super flirty short length, the adorable ruffles at the hem and sleeves. The ruffles were probably my favorite part! They added drama and a sense of fun to this simple little chambray summer dress.

I have worn this dress about 4 times already since I got it, and people could not stop asking about it! I even wore it to the TCF Style Expo in Atlanta recently and it was perfect for the HOTlanta summer heat!

Bananas, and mangoes, and cantaloupe, and pineapples, and many other fruits I can't even identify! It's a fruit party! What I love about this top, besides the print (obvi) is that it's off the shoulder -- which is totally on trend -- but is bra strap friendly. I HATE strapless bras...especially if I'm going for a cute casual outfit...so the fact that this Rico Top in Tutti Frutti has ties at the shoulder that can cover up your bra straps is a major win! And, the top is a light, floaty cotton, so it's very cool and perfect for the hot summer weather. I felt adorable, flirty and fruity in this outfit!

I paired this top with one of my favorite skirt finds of the summer from Torrid! Add a belt and some colorful slides, and that's all there is to it! I wore this out on a date night with my boyfriend and it felt fresh and cute and perfect!

I never knew that Lord & Taylor had a plus size section* until I attended a fabulous event there during Full Figured Fashion Week in New York. Not only was it a great event with a fun little fashion show...but I went crazy shopping there because they had some amazing plus size lines/brands that I don't see other places. One of those awesome brands is Modamix! Every single thing I bought that day from Lord & Taylor was Modamix. But today, let's talk PALM PRINT! I literally swooned when I saw this Modamix Pink and Green Palm Print Skirt and this simple little White Lace Cap Sleeve Top!

My friend Amanda from Latest Wrinkle can testify that we were walking over to the event and I was complaining about the lack of palm print items in plus sizes, and we gasped and started laughing when we stepped into the plus size section at Lord & Taylor. There was a whole display of this Modamix pink and green palm print skirt! I was immediately sold! 

This flirty little Modamix Plus Plus Size California Dreaming Leaf Full Skirt not only has the longed-for palm print, but it's on a pale pink background which really helps the colors to pop! It has an exposed half zipper in the back, and hits just above the knee. I paired it with this Modamix Plus White Lace Cap-Sleeve Top for a fresh, on-trend summery outfit.

Ever since plus size retailers started making more daring and figure-baring clothes, the plus size fashion community has embraced them with open arms. This year has truly been the year of the crop top for plus size fashionistas! Every major fashion event I attended this year had gorgeous plus size women baring their stomachs in crop tops and high-waisted skirts. And I was right there with them!

It's almost fall, y'all! I've started spotting pumpkin spice items and Halloween decor out in the shops...and that means, it's time to pull out the boots and start planning your fall wardrobe!
