How did I miss this? I thought Melissa McCarthy's new line, Seven7 was only being sold on HSN.com. But I just found out that it's already available on the Nordstrom website...and will debut in the Nordstrom on Michigan Ave in downtown Chicago tomorrow!

Surfing???? ME????? Really? Yep, I did it. I hauled this bountiful body up onto a surfboard and spent a few hours riding the waves off Waikiki beach in Hawaii this summer. Well...if by "riding" you mean "getting knocked off of the surfboard repeatedly" by waves, then yeah, I totally caught some waves. But you know what? I TOTALLY ROCKED IT and thanks to Juno Active, I looked fierce doing it!

When you're a big girl contemplating an intense water sport like surfing, you need two things: Support and Coverage. I found both of these things in the Juno Active AquaSport Crossback Tank Swimsuit and the AquaSport Mock Neck Rashguard.

The swimsuit has a high neck and fit tightly so that my chest was supported and not all over the place when I was paddling and trying to pop up on the board. The rashguard is essential to protect you from the sun and the horrible rash that can develop when rubbing your skin over the surfboard when you're paddling into the water. And of course, I chose both in the Safari print because I wanted to look and feel fierce out there in the water!

I had an absolute blast even though I couldn't manage to stand up all the way on the surfboard. I'm pretty sure I invented a new sport called "Surf Yoga," since I managed to do some impressive Downward Facing Dogs while out there. I spent most of the time screaming my head off while heading directly for other surfers. But I loved every minute of it!!

You know I'm obsessed with flirty vintage retro dresses, and I get ridiculously happy when I discover a new source for plus size options! Voodoo Vixen is a British brand with hundreds of amazing vintage dresses, cardigans and skirts in fun, kitschy floral, fruity and flirty prints. And many of them come in plus sizes! I was in heaven to say the least, and I just had to try the Tilly Shirt Dress which comes in a fabulous minty pink floral print!

SO CUTE!!!! The print, the shape, the covered buttons...I felt so flirty and fabulous! I have nothing negative to say...just be sure to order a size up if you are chesty like me. I ordered a 3X and I was nearly busting out!

I'm  so so so ready for fall!!  I was thrilled when Yours Clothing, an awesome online plus size boutique out of England, asked me to come up with a Fall Style Post. This fall, I'm totally feelin' the plaid, the khaki and the leather. So I immediately gravitated toward this Green and Navy Checked Tunic with a tie waist from Yours Clothing. I'm all about the shirt dresses, and this was a perfect, versatile option for the coming season.

Wear it bare-legged (like me!) or pair it with leggings or skinny jeans for a perfect casual fall outfit. And OMG...all of my curvy readers are always asking about wide-calf boots, and I've hit the holy grail with Yours Clothing! OK, I'm sure you've heard the hype...Target debuted a new plus size line called Ava & Viv, with the help of some fab plus size bloggers. Have you tried it yet? I was a little skeptical with their first collection...but all of that changed when I found these amazing Ava & Viv Black and White Ankle Pants. TO.DIE.FOR! I had to have them, and I've seriously worn them every other day to work this entire summer. So...I thought I'd give Target and Ava & Viv some love and showcase how I've been strutting my stuff in these pants. PSSSST they are on clearance right now. Snag them before they're gone---but be sure you size UP. I'm normally a size 18, but I bought a size 20, and they are still a little tight!

Have you noticed that I'm slightly obsessed with polka dots this season?!? I just can't seem to get enough of this fun print -- it goes with everything and immediately make me happy--even on a rainy day. Today's outfit features this City Chic Midi Spot Skirtwith a mint green Vince Camuto Sleeveless Blouse from Nordstrom. On my lunch break earlier this summer, I wandered down to the Ju Ming Sculpture in downtown Chicago and had my coworker snap these pics.

Have you heard all of the amazing news from Lane Bryant and their #PlusisEqual campaign for New York Fashion Week? I've been loving all of the pictures posted by my fellow plus size bloggers and models who were lucky enough to be in NY for the launch party. So, instead of being jealous, I am celebrating here in Chicago by featuring an all Lane Bryant outfit. And YES, that is a CAMO SEQUIN PENCIL SKIRT!! Lane Bryant put out this Camo Sequin Pencil Skirt a month or two ago and I was obsessed from the minute I saw it. Did you know that the fashion gods have deemed sequins appropriate for day wear?? Well, I wanted to test that out and came up with this work-to-event look -- entirely from Lane Bryant.

Pairing this amazing camo skirt with a blush pink tank top plays with the idea of hard/soft...and the addition of the jean jacket adds a casual element that makes this whole outfit work for daytime. Simply remove the jacket to transition to evening!

A note on sizing: the camo pencil skirt runs small -- order one or two sizes up! Also, if you have wide width feet, you'll love these heels -- so pretty and very roomy!!

I also decided to try out the Cobalt Eyeshadow trend with this look...very dramatic -- but still not sure how I feel about it! lol

So, there you have it. Be bold and wear those sequins to the office -- I know you want to!

This year is a total Plus Size Revolution! The recent Lane Bryant #PlusisEqual campaign has helped highlight the increasing acceptance of plus size women on runways and in magazines. It's been amazing to watch and to be a part of. How many times, as a plus size woman, have you been overwhelmed with choices?? Look #1: Wear It To Work for Casual Friday 

My first look is all about Casual Friday -- I love to wear jeans and look casual at work--at least one day a week, but still need to maintain some formalities and an air of professionalism. So, in this look, I tried to strike that balance.

For a Casual Friday look, I paired these Riders by Lee Heavenly Touch Samantha Skinny jeans with a pale pink top and a tweed capelet with floral details and a tie waist. I added some nude peep toe pumps and felt strong, stylish and comfortable all day!

Look #2: Go Wild for Weekend Brunch

When I go to brunch on the weekends, I like to get a little funky! This is the time to push a few boundaries and have fun with a casual, laid-back look and loads of accessories. 

For this weekend brunch outfit, I thought I'd play around with the bohemian (or is it more safari?) trend and wear this Alfani Plus Size Merino Wool Cape-Collar Sweater Vest from Macy's, funky jewelry, and my Tory Burch Sally 2 Peep Toe Wedges from Nordstrom.

Look #3: A Little Luxe for Girl's Night Out

Who doesn't love a Girl's Night Out? When I'm going out for dinner and drinks with my girlfriends, there's no need for sexy dramatic looks. So, I try to go a little luxe, and not too revealing. Basically, Cool and Stylish is the name of the game.

When I saw this INC International Concepts Boucle Knit Chiffon-Skirted top in this pretty metallic pink, I thought it struck the perfect GNO note -- just dressy enough without being too fussy. Throw on some rose gold Charles David pumps from DSW and my trusty gray Sejour Leather Jacket from Nordstrom -- add a simple envelope clutch, and that's it--I'm ready for some wine and good conversation with the girls!

Are you looking for some fun things to do in Chicago this weekend, October 16-18? I'm always running from one event or activity to another -- and I thought I'd share some of my adventures with you! So if you want to know where to go in Chicago to see and be seen, then this new series is for you! If you see me there, be sure to say hello!!

1. Epic Comedy Fest in Edison Park

If you like stand up comedy and have a car, you might want to head to the north side and stop in at the Wip Theater tonight and tomorrow night to catch the lineup in the 7th annual Epic Comedy Fest. This is a low cost activity (only $27 and BYOB!) and you are sure to get some great laughs. It's a perfect idea for a date night, especially when your bf has reached his/her limit with dance or fashion-related events! 

I went to one of the shows on Wednesday night and was thoroughly entertained by the line up of Luke Swanson, Natalie Jose, Aaron Sutherland, Pat Mcgann, and Ronnie Ray. It was so good, that I'm planning to go back on Saturday! Check it out and get your tickets here.  

2. Joffrey Balley: Sylvia

I'm a long time supporter of the Joffrey Ballet. The current production is Sylvia, and I absolutely cannot wait to see it tonight!

"Sylvia presents a young woman at the crossroads of adolescence and womanhood, struggling to find balance between strength and vulnerability and discovering love only through the awakening of her own sensuality. Sylvia is filled with themes of ambition, obsession, unrequited love and lost opportunities."

3. A Night in Sleepy Hollow -- Bourbonnais Township Park District

I'm a total sucker for fall-related activities and you can basically lure me to any event that features a corn maze and a campfire! This is kid friendly event--with tons of games and activities including a pumpkin patch and hay rides during the day. Then, after 8pm, things get a little spooky!

You can buy $12 tickets to see a LIVE REENACTMENT of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow! Seriously, I'm told there's a real guy on a horse who rides through the park...I'm SO THERE! 4. Apple Picking at County Line Orchard

Again, I'm obsessed with corn mazes and apple picking is a quintessential fall activity! On Sunday, I'm headed out to County Line Orchard to pick a bushel of apples and get lost in the maze. It's a kid- friendly, wholesome option for when you're sick of nights out (or in) in the city. Get some sunshine, play outside and eat some apples plucked straight from the source. Perfect Plus Size Suede Skirt from Simply Be

Plus size suede skirts are no longer a fantasy for curvy girls! This season, with 70s Boho Chic popping up in collections everywhere, I'm thrilled to report that I found the PERFECT plus size suede skirt! I don't use the term perfect very often, but it definitely applies to this Plus Size A-Line Suede Skirt from Simply Be. It's a rich camel suede with bright brass buttons down the front...and it's the perfect mid to high-thigh length (that is, if you're comfortable showing a lot of leg!). There is little to no stretch though, so if you are at the high end of your size, you might want to size up! I ordered a US18/UK22 and it was just this side of being too tight!

Because it's on the shorter side, and I don't want to show too much skin, I paired it with these awesome Over-the-Knee Suede Boots from Lane Bryant. Together, they create a nice visual effect that's not too risque and still fun and flirty.

I could have gone with a solid black top with this skirt, but I thought a stripe would be a bit more daring. So let me challenge you to do something unexpected with your outfit this week! Mix a print in with a short A-line skirt and over-the-knee boots. 

Custom Plus Size Dresses from K Couture

I love designing my own custom plus size dresses, and there's a new online shop that allows you to customize dresses from size 0 to size 36! It's called K Couture. You can customize an existing design or use their "Design a Dress" feature to create your own look from a selection of elements like the sleeves, the neckline, the fabric, the waistline, and the length. I totally got sucked into spending hours playing around with all the different colors, cuts and options--so don't be surprised if you get obsessed with their site.

In the end, I ordered the Skyler Bubble Dress in a deep Emerald Green in a size 20 with a boatneck and 3/4 length sleeves. Look at that rich emerald green taffeta! Love the color and the sheen. And the pleats around the skirt make the perfect bubble shape! (I know, I know...I should have used a steamer before the photo shoot!)

A note of caution, though: K Couture dresses can run a bit smaller than department store sizing, so USE THE SIZE CHART and take your measurements! Do NOT skip this step! I was sloppy with my measurements and ordered a size 20, but I really should have ordered an additional size up! If your measurements don't fit into one of the size chart ranges, then order for the biggest part of your body. Since mine is my chest and shoulders, I should have probably ordered a size 22. You can see that this dress is a bit tight in the chest and arms, and it's entirely my fault.

There are a few things I could have done to prevent this from happening:

1. Use the Size Chart 
2. Take accurate measurements (Here's a helpful blog post about this)
3. Call the knowledgeable K Couture stylists for free at 855-612-5426 if you are unsure of what size is best, or if you might need a custom size.

If you try these things and you still end up with a dress that is too tight in one spot or another, call K Couture and they will help you.

Nevertheless, I LOVE this dress and think it's perfect for upcoming holiday parties!

The weather is already changing here in Chicago, and I'm on the hunt for warm plus size workout wear. I have to trade in my tennis skirts and shorts for more coverage and my tank tops for warm layers. The good news is, there are actually some great plus size workout wear to choose from! Lately, I've been loving some Tek Gear finds from Kohl's. These great Tek Gear Shapewear Jacquard Workout Leggings hit just at the ankle and have a great herringbone and white stripe design on the calf. Cute, right??

Dressing for a workout in the fall and winter is all about layering. I have a base layer on that I will actually work out in, but need a sweatshirt or jacket to get me to and from my yoga class -- or whatever workout class you do! Here, I've gone with a classic Tek Gear Fleece Sweatshirt in Gray -- and here's the secret: it's lined with FLEECE!

It's so warm and cozy...perfect for running to and from workouts, but also for snuggling up in your apartment on cold winter nights. :) Also, did I mention that Tek Gear tops usually have holes for your thumbs so that your hands are a bit protected from the elements? GENIUS! I love those types of details.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who is the fairest of them all? ME of course!!! I'm totally feeling the villain vibe for this year's Halloween costume. Plus size Halloween costumes are kind of all over the place as far as taste-level, quality and sizing...so I was happy to discover a great selection of plus size costumes on BuyCostumes.com. I totally had a plus size fan girl moment when I saw an ad for a red fringe skirt from Lane Bryant. Everything about the picture had me swooning! The flirty fringe, bold red color and sexy black boots...I knew I had to have this outfit from Lane Bryant! Normally, I take inspiration from the ads and pictures I see and make it my own...but I really couldn't see improving on this...so, I bought the whole thing!

I love this Double V sweater in this bright red...so bold and fresh! I'll be wearing it in another post later this week, so keep an eye out. And have I mentioned these Over the Knee Boots? They are wide calf, so they are perfectly suited to us plus size gals! And these are made of real leather and have a great mid-height heel that you can actually walk it. If you're wanting to splurge on a great pair of boots this season, I would absolutely recommend these!
